Who is GN Classics

Set up first in 1994 in Mannheim, Germany by Goetz Neugebauer specialising in customisation and performance tuning of classic Vespa scooters.

After move to New Zealand, GN Classics opened the shop “Scooter e Motion” which was running from 1996 to 2014, catering to a wide base of customers in Auckland as well as rest of the country (and overseas).

The brands carried were Vespa, Lambretta, Benelli, Sachs and the new LML four stroke range.

Besides sales, service, restoration and repairs of those scooters, GN Classics is also known for fabrication and design of scooters and scooter concepts.

Since closing the shop doors of Scooter e Motion and moving to Australia, GN Classics has become more specialised and focused for owner/operator Goetz.

GN Classics is currently focusing on quality engine overhaul work on mainly large frame Vespas, as well as full restorations.

A major interest is to apply knowledge, resources and skills to crate classic Vespa scooters capable of travel and touring.

Engine upgrades, suspension improvement and touring specific modifications and accessories are on offer

Fun Facts

GNC Fun Fact No1

I hold a Kiwi Passport and before coming to Australia i was based in Auckland. For 18 years i was running Scooter e Motion , a Vespa dealership, workshop & custom/restoration venture

GNC Fun Fact No 2

From 1988 i dipped my toes into Vespa racing and Rallying Taking part at events in Germany, Sicily and later in New Zealand. Highlights were: - attending 3 consecutive Dei Tre Mare events in Sicily 1990, 1991 and 1992 - the European Championship for Vespa Raid. Best result: 4th in 1992 - joining the German Vespa Sport Championship in 1991 to 1993 - with events on short- and long track (f.e. Nuerburgring) and long distance rallying Best result: winning German Championship 1993 - accepting the "Southern Cross Challenge" in New Zealand twice ..and finishing the tour as first ever Vespa in competition with over 100 motorbikes. It was fun as it lasted - i retired from track racing in 1993 due to health factors .. and from long distance rallying about 15 years ago for same reason. Still got the habbit to put the knee out in tight, fast corners ... and still craving for trips on the open roads. And yes ... i always have built, toured, rallied and raced on engines and scooters i have built and/or modified Gathering knowledge and experience that i can now apply to my client's machines

GNC Fun Fact #3

L' Oiseau Du Temps 1991 - 2022 There has been one constant in my life over the last 31 years ... My beloved Rally 225 The idea of her conceived by my love for French Graphic Novels ( Régis Loisel - fan-page ), especially the epic saga "Auf Der Suche Nach Dem Vogel Der Zeit" ..and the desire to build a custom Vespa exactly to my liking. Late 1991 i scored a NOS Rally 200 frame (spare part, roadtrip to Vienna to get it) and created this Rally in the typical style of the 90s . My artist friend Daniel Vial translated the story to the bodywork via airbrush. I took care of the engine - rather advanced for the time then. Boasting a long stroke crank (they were not freely available like now) and a 225cc Pinaco aloy cylinder kit - with a double carburettor set up. Whilst one 24/24 was feeding through the rotary valve, a second 20/20 was fitted on a reed valve directly on the cylinder ... combined with a MSC Micron expansion chamber - she was quite a rocketship. There were a few more specials on board, like a modified stator for 110W output and a halogen (Cosa) headlight ... She was so much fun to ride and show off, i took her to the UK, custom shows in Germany and France and a couple of times over the Alps to Italy and South France for EuroVespa events. Of course she came with me on my big move to NZ in the late 90s ... but was less and less used,as i never got her registered and only used my trade plate for the odd trip and events ( Beach Hop !) Coming to Australia now 8 years ago - i got her going , RWC and on a Club Rego .... and again only rode her a couple of times a year... The aging (and fiddly) double carburettor set up was a bit of a concern for me to take her out more often. Last year marked her 30th birthday - and i had sourced a bunch of presents for her, whilst she was parked up in our lounge. The time had come and i gave her a so well-deserved overhaul. Lots of new engine parts, wiring & cables - she is now as fresh as she was in 1991. You will likely spot her at a classic event soon!
